Lilly Pulitzer

Posted on 13:35 by Unknown
I wondered why Lilly Pulitzer sounded so familiar, and then I remembered there used to be a store called Hattie Carnegie ( woman who founded store just took name Carnegie for business reasons, and I suspect Pulitzer was chosen for same reasons).

This from Yelp (had trouble with computer for some reason on this one, wanted to copy everything or nothing at all)

Noticed that people talk a lot about decor of the store.

It is called "uber preppie" and another woman called herself " a Southern sorority girl" or something.

If you go shopping a lot  at this kind of store you have probably have an idea then what is going on here. ( Favorable reviews mostly).

Everyone was extremely helpful. I was greeted right when I walked in. I read the review written by Samantha and was a little nervous because I am Asian and she said she was greeted when she was with her Caucasian friend. But once I walked in, I was pleasantly surprised when every worker in the store helped me. I was looking for a graduation dress and all of the sales associates helped me find the perfect one, they also helped me find a dress that was perfect for my body. So I definitely will be going back!

While I like Lilly Pulitzer and this store is gorgeous, the sales girls were rather rude. I was looking for someone to check the price on a bangle and couldn't get someone to do that. I seem to find this problem at every Lilly Pulitzer store I go to, maybe its me? I ended up leaving the store and figured I should stick to shopping online when it comes to Lilly.

The store itself is lovely but the sales associates are usually rude and have no interest in serving their customers. Too bad there are no other locations in Manhattan.. As a Lilly lover I'm disappointed to see such bad management.

If you're a fan of Lilly's bright prints and matching accessories, home goods and paper products this is the spot to shop the entire collection.

I've had good and bad experience with the staff, but I will say they are helpful with gift ideas and willing to arrange for courrier without any greif.

Super cute store, unique take on an old space.  Good selection of the current Pulitzer offerings.

I love this location because from the moment you step inside you feel like you are on vacation.  All the decor and beach style accents and colors are amazing.  Yes, there is tons of pink but there's so much character inside the shop, it is gorgeous.

I don't think the sales people are super attentive.  I did not get acknowledged when I walked in and was walking around by myself for a while and then finally when I had about 5 items in my arm, a salesperson approached me to start a room.

The changing rooms are adorable with trunks painted on the walls and little buckles bolted into the wall to look like real trunks which is very cute.  I always manage to buy a few dresses or tops when I leave, the selection is great and they are always rotating items.  The Junior League holds an annual shopping event here which is amazing.

I LOVE LILLY! As a Southern girl, Lilly Pulitzer is a staple in my closet. They have come a long way since the early 90's when they only sold dresses. They have a great classic pieces now in addition to the classic sundresses. They make great jeans and cords, beautiful sweaters and even AMAZING bathing suits.

I really like this store as it has that great New York large store appeal with lots of selection, yet it is still Lilly. They sell Men's, Women's and Children's at this location. They also carry the jewelry and shoes. The staff here is friendly and will gladly help you find anything you need.

The sale selection this year was non existent which is sad. Last year we found some spectacular deals right after Christmas.

Pop in here, you might find yourself surprised if you have not paid attention to this brand in a while. You will learn why so many people Love Lilly!

Fell in love with this store recently! I love their short styles and unique cuts such as the buttercup & I absolutely love their blue seersucker Callie skirt. The summer sale that just ended was irresistible. I ended up buying two skirts and a pair of shorts that I cannot wait to wear all September!

This store is gorgeous inside, it is one of the most beautifully decorated stores on Madison Avenue, very unique! I have been a Lilly lover for over 12 years and since the label has exploded I am so happy to see a store that stays true to her signature style. If you are sad, you won't be anymore when you come inside. They have events sometimes, too! I went to an art sale / event here and got free champagne and bought myself a gorgeous shift dress. I highly recommend a visit here!

I completely agree with Samantha. I went into the store planning on buying a shoulder bad and makeup bag in my sorority's Lilly print, along with a dress. That would have come close to $500. However, since my mom, sister, and I were dressed casually for a day of running errands, we were completely ignored. The woman greeting customers didn't even look our way, though she happily welcomed other customers into the store. Needless to say, I left without purchasing anything. Why should I spend my money at a place that doesn't even value me as a customer? Very disappointed.

Great experience at this uber-preppy retailer.  The sales associates were helpful and friendly from the moment I walked in.  I found what I was looking for and some other sale items made my day!

As a sorority girl, I love Lilly and its designs! Being from Long Island, I finally got to visit the store here in the Upper East Side. Both times I have been there, I felt uncomfortable and the sales associates were extremely unwelcoming. Despite wearing shorts and a nice shirt, I am still a customer and those working in there should still be attentive to customers' needs regardless of attire. I am absolutely disgusted with the snooty management. The first visit, my friend was sitting outside of the fitting room and not one girl working there bothered asking her if she needed any help with finding anything despite helping every other Caucasian person in the store. Today was my second visit with my very-much Caucasian friend and we were both in casual attire. The only time we were acknowledged was when one of the sales girls overheard our conversation about choices in working attire at our big-name accounting/finance companies. Are you serious? Now that you know we probably have a bigger paying job than your measly retail salary, you finally say something? Her remarks weren't even related to helping us find the correct size/dress! Completely disrespectful.
