Architectural Investigator: 322 East 57th Street, Manhattan--those two storey windows

Love this classic Pre-War "White Glove" apartment building with what must be two-storey living rooms (there are a good number of buildings with this feature in Manhattan of course, but this is just such a classic--and classy--example.

First, just the fact's, ma'am--from City Records--available on the internet

The building at 322 East 57th is elegantly clad in white limestone and is one of the most prestigious buildings of the prewar era. Known for its exceptional duplex homes, the building offers residences with soaring double height ceilings, grand French windows, wood-burning fireplaces, and rooms of impressive scale and balance.

Residence 8/9A offers an exquisitely gracious 7-room layout - the lower level features 3 bedrooms, a library, 3 full baths and one half bath while the upper level features a formal dining room, kitchen, and one half bath. The two floors join at the living room which creates the focal point of the apartment with its stunning 19 foot ceilings and oversized 14 foot tall windows. The home boasts North, South, and East exposures with ample sunlight throughout the day making it the perfect home for those who require fine detail and dramatic elegance.

*8/9A may be purchased with the adjoining residence 8/9B to create an extraordinary home.

When it says "In Sutton Place," of course, it means in the Sutton Place neighborhood, not on Sutton Place itself...

Unfortunately, none of this tells us as much as we would like to know about the building--who the architect was, how it was built as the Depression was rolling in, when it became a Co-op and all sorts of information like that.

Let me see if there is anything more about that on the net --well let's see what this info from Trulia Realty adds--
