Ramada Inn in Kips Bay

Posted on 17:44 by Unknown
You would think these chain hotels would get same review for all locations--just the opposite is true!

I am not sure right now where other Ramada Inns are in NYC or how they rank against this one..
Overall pretty good, as usual some sour apples...

    Nice cheaper place to stay.

King room does not have a refrigerator and microwave like advertised, only some of the queen rooms do. Staff was accommodating with my concern that my room didn't have what was advertised. Be aware that this hotel also charges extra for more than one person.

King room was a typical small NY room with a nice memory foam bed with lots of pillows. Nice flat screen TV with Showtime. Bathroom has a bit of counter space (more than some NY rooms) and a shower/tub with a nice adjustable shower head. Toiletries were good and included conditioner.

Internet is free and fast. Air conditioner was fine, not too noisy.

Breakfast room has beagles, doughnuts, instant oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, toast, cereal, fruit, milk and juices.

Lots of good restaurants in the area, I just wish the subway was a little closer but it's not too far away. I will stay here again and be sure to sign up for Wyndham Rewards so you can earn free stays too.

I've stayed at Ramada Eastside 3 times in the last few years. Twice with a cousin as a sleep pad after partying in NYC. A third time with my wife as a planned 5 night stay in August.

This review for room #912, a single King.

Pros: priced right, good location, breakfast included, good hotel service, upper floor quiet, no problems with free wi-fi and hot water.

Cons: something smells bad, musty stench has got to go (carpets?), A/C works but is LOUD, slippery shower floor could be trouble, cheap towels, my first use the shower towel split in half.

Summary: typical big city small hotel room, good spot as a late night crash pad, you get what you pay for,

Wife and I  moved on after a sleepless night and paid up 30% for a quiet, non stink room in Tribeca. The wife is happy.

I just read another yelp-ers warning about rooms ending in #12, confirmed.

I usually stay with friends when I go to New York, but this time I had to find a hotel, and there isn't much in my price range in Manhattan that doesn't involve sharing a bathroom or sleeping in a glorified closet. The rooms aren't huge, but perfectly fine. Queen size bed with memory foam mattress, flat screen TV with cable. I was there during very humid weather, and the AC was fantastic. Small bathroom, but very clean. Good hot water. Wifi was adequate, and free. The free continental breakfast was great, but sometimes the breakfast room seemed like kind of a wreck, and could use a more consistent picking up after/table wiping by the staff. The only vending machines are for soda and water, no snacks. Also no ice machines that I could find. But there's a deli across the street for whatever you might need. Easy access to the subway and buses.

Third time around with this place- the windows and bathroom have gotten progressively smaller each time we have stayed here so the shine of the first stay (see review) is wearing thin. The ceiling had repaired water damage so it was musty- the pillows are hard lumps but the bed is excellent.  They repaired a slow toilet in no time.
Basically a nice place-- will probably go somewhere else next time unless we can for sure get our favorite room back.  Avoid rooms ending in ##12- they have small windows and small bathrooms.

The room was fine & clean, but I had such a negative experience here. My husband, 2 young kids, and I were evacuated during Hurricane Sandy & came to the Ramada after leaving an evacuation center. We asked for 2 nights so we wouldn't have to move again. The next day, the front desk said that we had only requested one night & that the hotel was full. We got kicked out as the storm was hitting. It was pretty horrible. To be fair, the included breakfast was good. I just couldn't get past the service. Also, the elevator was super slow & the front desk  wasn't kid-friendly.

For families, I would definitely say choose somewhere else. We were happy with the Hilton Garden Inn on 35th, which was also cheaper.

I would AVOID staying at the Ramada Eastside.

We stayed in 2 rooms for 8 nights in 2010.  Here are just a few of the lowlights of our experience:

    1) The female employee who ran the continental breakfast area downstairs approached us about the major bug infestation problem they were having in the food service area of the hotel and asked us to keep the door closed to help control the flies that were swarming around the food.  If the hostess running the food area felt compelled to tell me that there was a sanitary issue causing a problem with flies, needless to say I am worried.

    2) We filed 3 complaints about our room directly by phone with the Manager of the Ramada Eastside, and then emailed a 4th complaint to the Customer Service Hotline for all of Ramada. That was 90 days ago. They have come back to say that the Manager of the Ramada Eastside has "lost" all 3 of our complaints so they don't have to respond, and they are too busy to respond to the 4th complaint.

It was a miserable stay. I so wish we had stayed at the hotel where my friends stayed 2 blocks away that was about the same price but MUCH MUCH nicer.

Can't complain. It gets the job done when you need a place to lay your head. Decent sized rooms and all amenities needed. Plus I really liked the pillows.

I had a very satisfactory stay at the Ramada in December 2006. I spent 5 days there, and it was my first time in New York. It's a clean, quiet, budget-friendly hotel that provides the basic amenities. The room I stayed in was pretty small, but not suffocating.

The staff was friendly. I remember the first night we were they, we asked about good places to eat and things to see, and they were very helpful. They gave us personal recommendations and directed us.

If you're looking for a luxury hotel, this place is not it. But if you're satisfied with a clean and comfortable hotel in a calm neighborhood, I'd say go for it!

It was ok.. It is near a bar so we could hear everyone shouting all Friday night as we tried to sleep. Continental breakfast was decent- bagels, yogurt, hard boiled eggs etc.. however our first day there we were checking out the breakfast room and saw a mouse run by!!! Overall, it was just ok.

Wow! Great hotel in the heart of Manhattan. Rooms are fine, free WiFi, free breakfast and close to everything. Internet and elevators are both a bit slow, especially for the fast pace of New York, but hey, if that's the worst here- I'm over it! All in all, a great place to stay and a great price for the City.

Can I yelp loudly about this place? First of all, they have great rates. We stayed here for Thanksgiving weekend for under $150 a night. That alone is amazing. Comfy, clean, and quiet. Bathroom was newly renovated and immaculate. Great water pressure. Lobby was small but modern, staff very friendly. They even have a small gym, and free continental breakfast. Great neighborhood, we walked everywhere, and enjoyed jazz at a great place down the street. We will definitely be back!
