L'Express- Bouchon

Posted on 17:32 by Unknown
Another one of those places I have somehow walked by many times and never really noticed (such is Manhattan)-- FYI, other review site likes this place even more than Yelp does, which is good enough despite some sour apples (one guy says he is French and this place aint, and another person claims to have gotten food poisoning)

I am not a fan of lamb usually. It's gamey and gross.

However, I definitely appreciated the lamb burger at L'express for its succulence and spices. The burger was large and in charge.

It's a nice place to catch a quick lunch/brunch- whatever time you enjoy rolling out. For us, it was a nice pit stop from the Summer Street festivities.

*I would think twice before ordering the Bloody Mary though. A bit diluted and not as full bodied as I would have liked.

food was yummy; service was grumpy
We had the egg special of the day: two eggs with ratatouille and a merguez sausage and toast...it was really delicious. I asked for my eggs to be soft boiled, and apparently they have no idea what I meant (the waiter kept asking me to repeat myself), and the kitchen made me poached eggs, which was fine with me.
Would return to eat good food, but not happy with our grumpy waiter.

Onion soup is by far the best I have ever had and I am a onion soup fanatic. The lamb burger is amazing! With Goat Cheese? Even better! I don't even like fries and I will actually eat theirs. The Croque Madame is out of this world. The cheese plate is to die for!

My friends and I never seem to eat dinner at a decent hour so this place is perfect for us. The service is always top notch and on point.

The atmosphere is that of a French Cafe. The one problem? It's 700 miles away from where I live!

This has been a favorite for a few years now. The food quality is always solid; I've never been disappointed. My favorite is the salmon dijonaise. Simple and satisfying.

The staff is not overly friendly, but friendly enough. Always easy to get a table, probably because they're open around the clock.

I ordered the salmon with spinach , it was very good accompanied by a Fin Du Monde which has slight citrus and spicy notes that complimented the salmon...

I had 2 Fin Du Mondes by the end of the night ,slightly buzzed and content. The portions are decently sized , extremely dim lighting (that I could care less about, I could've been in a cave and wouldn't mind, I had beer)

Staff was very friendly and attentive.

This is one of my favorite late night restaurants in the city! The atmosphere is fun, food and alcohol! The servers are fun. The food is good with flare, the prices are also reasonable.

My favorite dishes, escargot and the brie burger!!

    Over priced Trash!
I'm french and I know what French food is supposed to taste like... Very disappointed...
The service was ok BUT the FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE, the waiter really seemed sorry, but not that surprised  when I explained how bad it was...

The salad was nasty and soggy, and there wasn't any dressing on it, about $12 for the worst salad I've had (especially the cheap warm goat cheese on top) so i asked for another salad, without trying to be adventurous hoping they would make it right, BUT NOT, it was terrible...
My meat wasn't cooked right and cold, my boyfriend couldn't even finish his meal  either....
Sorry but all you are paying for here is the Rent....

I ate here once, this past week and got FOOD POISONING. I was here with my date, we ordered the Duck Chicharones, Merguez, Duck Cigars, Steak Frites and the culprit - the Duck Liver Moose. My date and I shared everything except the Duck Liver Moose, and I ended up being sick all that night and the follow day. I should have trusted my instincts when the dish seemed less like a liver moose, and more like cream cheese in texture.

I called the restaurant, twice, to speak to the General Manager and never got a call back.

I will NOT be eating here again.

    UPDATE:

The GM did reach out to me and offered me a giftcard in the mail. I still don't think I'd eat here again, after being traumatized by the first experience. I appreciate the follow up, though!

3.5 stars. This place gets 3 stars alone just for being a full service restaurant open 24 hours! Came here recently and was pleasantly surprised how busy and fun this place was at 2am. They also have breakfast after 1am ...who doesn't love breakfast when you're drunk at night! Service was friendly but a bit slow. Ambiance is cute and fun for late night food. Prices are fine but food quality is eh. Tried the calamari, tomato soup and arugala salad and all were lacking in flavor. That being said, they have a nice selection of options for late night.

Just the fact that they open late should get them props. Food isn't the best of all time, but pretty good over all. I'll always go there after a night out and minimum food option around.

I had my birthday dinner held here for 20 people including one child.

The restaurant lost our reservation. Luckily, they accommodated for my party. The manager expressed his deepest regrets for losing our reservations and made sure my party was well served. Our waiter was exceptional.

The food was amazing. The wine was amazing. The vibe was amazing. The only downside was that it took a long time for the food to come but I will let that slide since we had 20 people in our party!

This restaurant definitely helped my birthday much more amazing. I will definitely be going here more.
