Manhattan, NYThis is is the craft part of the duo of bars that are connected but have separate beer and food menus. Cornerstone next door has most of the macrobrews like budlight, yuengling etc while stags head does the craft brew with left hand and captain lawrence. Space is nice and happy hour is good as a few beers at 4 dollars plus couple more at 5 dollars. If one person wants shocktop and the other Kelso you can walk between the two bars with your drink.
The food was nothing amazing as Nachos could have been served on bigger platter so not piled so high. Needed to spend alot of time mixing the ingredients. The chicken and waffles though were great. If in the neighborhood I will return and hopefully will not be raining so can enjoy there outdoor space. -

KEW GARDENS, NYThis is just your standard midtown after-work watering hole. Not surprisingly, it gets pretty packed during happy hour (especially on Thursdays and Fridays). Disappointingly, it gets really HOT in there too. Just standing around, sipping my wine, I was slowly getting drenched. I partly blame the sorry two-blade ceiling fans in the downstairs room. Who on earth thought that two blades would cut it and move air *effectively* through a room? Just silly.
However, their wait staff is friendly. Beer selection is decent. This wouldn't be the place I'd go to for cocktails, but happy hour is pretty good. -

New York, NYI heard great reviews about this bar however my experience was not all that great.
I'm not much of a beer connoisseur so the waitress suggested a few diff type of beers and I just rolled with whichever one sounded better. It was ok. We wanted to sit outside and she deny us from sitting outside to not lose us from her section.
My main reason of going there was because I wanted bar food (wings, fries etc) my wings were dried and did not taste that good. I order a side of mash potatoes and they were very bland. So basically the overall experience sucked and seem like a drag. I will not be returning here -

I think I'm in a 3-star kinda mood today. This is a close 4-star, but I think I had a little too high of an expectation going in. They do have good beer options, but it is a little over-hyped; there are several other places to get good beer. I had the shepherds pie, which was good and nice to get back to the Irish bar food I had been missing. The place was pretty busy, but it was Friday after work dinner crowd. I would go back if I was in the area (which is never), but wouldn't go out of my way again. -

New York, NYOne of my favorite after work beer joints. Relatively extensive selection of unique/good beer which you can also try as a tasting set of 4 small glasses.
Lively ambiance but still not too loud for comfortable conversation without shout. This is a relatively small establishment, but they have cozy dining area on second floor and has brother bar right next to it. You can walk around these 2 bars through the entrance near the bar counter. Actually I've never been to the neighbor bar but heard they carry basic line of draft beer like Bud, Amstel, etc....
I've been here mainly on Fridays and don't know about other days of week, but think you should come early to secure sheets or spots in the bar area since this place can get quite busy by 7. -

Came here for beer club and had a very nice time.
Service was definitely very good. We had a great server who handled us with aplomb. The decor was very nice and they even have an elfin "beer garden"
They had a decent variety of beers on tap but I didn't think it was as broad as other places. They offer flights, which I love because you get a chance to sample a variety of beers and try new things.
The other issue I had was that three of the first three beers I ordered-directly off the chalkboard- they didn't have any more. It was kind of funny because as people in my group came in and started ordering drafts she had to keep repeating "Oh, we don't have that. Now we have the XYZ". Here's my suggestion....get an eraser and just erase the beers from the chalkboard that aren't on tap! That way you don't have to repeat it 25 times per night and you don't have disappointed patrons! Also, I really wanted an ESB and when that's replaced with a Milk Stout, that's not really an acceptable replacement for my tastebuds.
Nachos were very good. I had the buffalo chicken press and it was tasty but really dry. French fries were excellent. Another guy had the mac and cheese and it smelled ssssooooo good.
I'd come back.-

Sunnyside, NYGreat beer selection & good food, but gets some of the overflow crowd of 20-something idiots who go to 'bars' in the 50's for 'the scene.' I recommend the place for lunch and evenings early in the week when they don't get all the jerkoffs from the 50's Second Ave crowd. -

North Hollywood, CAI loved the ambience, the music, and the food. I found this spot on a visit in town, staying just down the street at Pod 51, and my buddy & I got lunch here today. We came in during happy hour and each got a beer and a burger for $10.. quality food, and great service. -

Doc's cider pints on happy hour?! Happy indeed.
Came here on a Friday after work that I got out early, that worked out very well as I had a spot at the bar as it filled up... and it filled up. Might be a difficult space if you show up after its already packed.
Anyway, decent crowd with OK bartenders (one good one just seemed pissed to be there) Didn't have the food but the happy hour had a bunch of good beers on it, which is a welcome happening in midtown.
Would absolutely go back for happy hour --- and maybe outside of happy hour. Will round up to 4 stars because the locale is full of so many bad bars. -

My trip to The Stag's Head was this past January, during one of our many wintry snowstorms, for a friend's birthday party. I don't usually travel to the LES, but finding the bar was made easier by the giant wooden hanging sign shaped like -- you guessed it --- a stag's head.
(It's close to the corner of 51st Street & 2nd Ave, next to Cornerstone.)
Once inside, the split-level bar showed a dimly-lit lower bar & a staircase leading to a lighter, louder area. I asked the bouncer where the party was, & we were quickly shooed upstairs. There's no bar upstairs, but there are doors that lead out to a patio, & large windows that open out to the street. A waitress offered to take our drink orders, & pointed us toward the big chalkboard with that night's offerings: an impressive selection of beers & ciders. Cider? Hooray!
