Lenscrafters Midtown East

Posted on 17:49 by Unknown
I have been to another two Lenscrafter stores for glasses and they were both really excellent, I liked everything about them and they are priced just normal for Manhattan I believe...

Let us see  what Yelp says about this outlet...if  no reviews for here, will use another Midtown one

Some bad reviews for this place but as I have said Yelp gets all the complainers you might as well hear them out

Came in here on a whim around noon and was out the door around 2pm with a sample pair of lenses.  Dr. Irani was awesome and I felt comfortable with all the sales people here as well.  Would definitely recommend this particular location for Dr. Irani.  Cannot comment on the selection of frames as I was there specifically for contacts.

This is not a review of the doctor, only of the sales people at this particular location.

The sales people try to push you into $300 lenses without first telling you the cost or asking what you want! The person I dealt with literally flew through the pricing without even explaining 1)  what she was doing or 2) asking me anything. When I busted her on this, she got visibly annoyed. I can't imagine how badly a less assertive person or someone who is not a native English speaker would get ripped off.

Trust me, they will try to sell you the most expensive lenses they can because they make commission. They also will try to upsell you on everything: eye exam, insurance, etc.

It should break down something like this (NYC prices may vary, found on the internet from 2011):

    Lenscrafters prices:
    Plastic - $125
    Featherwates (polycarbonate) - $190
    Featherwates plus - $220
    Featherwates complete - $325

    As a comparison, Pearle Vision:
    Lenses are $120 (CR-39 plastic)
    Polycarbonate $199 for single vision.
    Anti-reflective coating adds $80.

Oh, and their 30 day guarantee starts from when you buy it, not from when they are ready. So, since they take two weeks to get you the glasses, you are halfway thru your return period. Beware. There are cheaper options (which they will try to scare you away from) like Warby Parker, Costco, etc.

    Just OK.

You would have thought I'd walked into a used car dealership. It's very salesy. I have an optometrist at home that I've been going to since I was 8, so I wasn't interested in doing a full exam, I just wanted an update on my prescription so I could order some new specs from the Bklyn Flea, and timing was an issue. I made this very clear to the desk guy (who was actually really nice).

The doctor used scare tactics to try to get me to do the full exam there. Maybe she has a dilation quota she has to meet? It's Christmastime, and there's a bonus involved? I don't know, she was pretty relentless about it though. She was resentful when I kept declining, and she ended up being kind of irritating.

In any case, when they weren't trying to intimidate me into a full exam, or hurling frames at me, they were actually quite efficient. And maybe, just maybe, if she had offered me a gently used, late-model Ford Escape...

Anyway, lesson learned, don't mess around with this corporate retail crap, go support your local optometrist!

I never usually take the time to write reviews but the service I received here today was UNBELIEVABLE! And in a good way! I did my research before I went into the store and had an idea of the frames I was looking for. I walked in and was greeted with a smile. I really hate going in retail stores where the salespeople are breathing down your back, so this was perfect. Jessica at the counter introduced herself and told me to let her know if I needed her to open any cases. After browsing around on my own terms I told her I needed a case opened and from there she helped me pick out the perfect frame out of 5 different ones I chose. She was very helpful and thoughtful- the ones I chose in the end she had me try on over 5 times to compare to the others to make sure they looked the bestr. I don't think I've ever gone to a store and felt so good about a purchase. She was also extremely friendly, she cared about my questions and concerns and I left the store feeling great. I can't say that very often nowadays. I definitely, definitely recommend this store and especially Jessica since she was such great help!

Don't dismiss it because it's a chain--the staff is very polite and helpful, and there is a great selection. The high prices are what's to be expected, but there happened to be a courtesy promotion and I got 50% off my purchase. Or, if you bring in an old pair you can get up to $200 off your purchase too.
