First, I bought a shirt for $50 in this store. My wife noticed that it was $35 online, so we just returned the shirt and ordered online. When the shirt arrived, it was missing two buttons and--my favorite part--still had the anti-theft device attached. This is not only a complete lack of quality control and maybe even intentional, but it would seem to support what another reviewer said about the shirts not being very sturdy. I took pictures and emailed them to customer service. I got a form letter in reply with no mention of specifics. I called and got a replacement. They don't mention that replacements require a signature, so the package went back to them when we weren't home, even though it's one short-sleeve shirt and would have fit in the mailbox if they had sent it USPS.

To top it all off, I got an automatic email asking me to write a review of my purchase, so I did. Banana Republic will not post negative reviews. It seems this is probably common, as you'll notice that the positive reviews are marked unhelpful, probably by annoyed posters like me whose negative experiences were censored.

Brought a pretty dress last weekend at Banana Republic and wear it to work the next day, got a lot of compliments! Always like the store, the size fit and the quality is good. It is nice for working clothes!

The OP meant the 86th street stop, lest anyone be confused.

I would typically never think to review a Banana Republic.  Frankly, I dont even like Banana Republic.  I think their clothes are rather expensive, well not really technically expensive, but expensive for what is essentially inferior quality and cheap materials (i.e. it's expensive for what you're getting).  Net/net, all it is is a slightly more upscale GAP (same ownership).

Okay, okay,,,,enough negativity.  Why the hell AM I reviewing it then AND giving it 5 stars at the same time?  Because I've probably been in 30 or 40 Banana Republic's in my life, and this one is the nicest one I've ever seen.  The location was obviously a bank branch in former life, and it has lovely architecture with giant high ceilings and TALL double doors upon entrance.  The layout is rather unique too, separating the mens from the womens sections in a way that makes it feel like two different stores.  Plus, it's literally right on top of where you get off the subway.  Someone on the BR site selection team did a hell of a great job picking this spot.

Never had anything bad to say about any BR. Really chic and stylish clothing comes from this company and I love. I also love that a lot of their clothing is vanity sized so I always feel smaller than I am there and at old Navy. They are yes a tad expensive but your paying for really good quality that will last a long time.

This particular location is near my home so I come here often to take a look at what's new (I haven't a job at the moment so I just look). I don't have the card although they really know how to tempt a girl.

The staff are super helpful so that helps a lot.

I bought a couple of shirts that were all defective: the seams fell apart after 3-4 days of wear. I tried to return them, and all I got was "the shirts are useless, I cannot resell them". My God! They sell me $70 shirts which fall apart, a systematic defect that has appeared in all 3 of them, and they refuse to take it back?!

The Banana Republic store on 5th Ave was helpful, however.

This Banana is GOOD. It's so well stocked, and the people who work here are really professional. The displays are helpful and obtainable. I've seen better sales racks, but, really, this store did an awesome job.

I love BR. But most especially this one. It's right off the 1 train, they have a GREAT sale section, their staff is unusually helpful (which says a lot b/c I find BR employees to normally be VERY helpful.)

Just your ordinary, sterile, corner BR. You're probably glad if you live in the neighborhood and this one's near you. Staffed by the delightfully overweight, effete, glasses-wearing, one-day stubble showing men who look nothing like the thin, cut models adorning the walls, yet the staff looks just dandy in their BR garb. You've been to one, you've likely been to all...

As previously said, GORGEOUS location. nicest one i've ever been to. but the selection was eh and the sale rack? what sale rack? there was one small shelf of sale items and that was it.

the only reason this banana gets 4 stars is for the location. other than that, 2 stars

i just want to say i love this br.  the staff is great and super helpful when you ask them to look for stuff that may be hidden.  the layout is great with men/petites on the 1st floor and women's on the ground level.  ladies that means you can shop without judgement.

the store goes out of their way to make you feel welcome - yesterday they had giveaways, raffles, and wine.  wine at a br?  even though i passed on the vino, for reals - where else have you seen them give away wine at a retail shop like this?

i usually don't rate stores, just food, but i just really enjoy this location.

Super helpful.  I once got them to remove a tag on a coat which was at least 4 years old.  My mother bought it, and never wore it, and we didn't realize the old school sensor was still on it.
