Not bad, but not quite renovated enough for a lot of people...(poor elevators, complaints about cleanliness, etc.) But hardly awful reviews either. Some people really like it. Probably worth considering if you can get a deal here (Note: most people very happy with the location)

AustraliaStayed here is April 2013 at the start of our trip for 3 nights and then in may 2013 for 2 nights at the end of trip.
Loved it, or more to the point we loved New York. It's not the flashiest hotel in the world but value for money you can't go wrong. Clean and tidy, ideally located to everything, but most of New York is, it all depends on your budget.
I would stay here again and have recommended it to all our friends. -

And did I mention economical? This place is a bargain. There are people reviewing who give it a less than perfect score. Didn't see that at all. OK, the continental breakfast is not haute cuisine. But honestly, they gave me caffeine and a bagel. Started the day.
Just look at the address: W32nd between 5th and 6th in midtown. Literally 30 feet from a subway station, so you can get anywhere. Koreatown area w/24-hour restaurants, so the street always feels busy and (to me) safe even at night. Our queen-sized room was super clean, quiet, and comfortable. Flat screen TV in the room, adjustable thermostat, shampoo and soap provided were from Bath & Body Works. Cool!
Bonuses? Super nice staff. Very gracious, welcoming and accommodating. Bell staff kept our bags prior to check in, and after check out the next day, so we were free to roam around the city without lugging all of our stuff. We returned to the hotel - after checkout - and were still able to make use of the business center and 2nd floor lounge, which is as really nice touch. Coffee, tea, water, cookies and a comfy place to sit from 8-4 each day. Then you walk 1-1/2 blocks to Penn and get on the train. Really, it's perfect. I will absolutely be back. -

Decent atmosphere - nothing too dark so quite good for a casual drink meetup and same time for maybe a date meetup. Equivalent Manhattan cocktail prices. -

Huntington, NYI am some sort of "hotel-snub" and here is why: I was a flight attendant for 15 years staying in the best and worst of some hotels in countries all around the world (I could write a book about hotels... from bed bugs to suites and from 0 starts to 5 stars hotels). My experience has given me a quite range of knowledge about the industry... Now with my credibility built up, here is what I think of the Hotel Stamford.
Location: Excellent! Steps away from great locations in Manhattan such as Koreantown, Empire State, Penn Station, Manhattan Mall and many others, this is for the people that do not care about rooms and do care, mostly, about location.
Lobby: Cold (feeling, not temperature-wise), with a very small check-in desk, old and dated counters, furniture and an elevator that looks that it should be in an antique museum. Light is very bright-white business like and I feel like I am walking into an office building more than a hotel. I guess you can claim that it adds "feeling" to the hotel... yeah, right...
Amenities: The hotel offers free wireless in the lounge floor only between the early morning hours until 3 pm. After hours, the guest must pay... what? That is the biggest oxymoron I've heard in a long time. Why charge for only a few hours of the night? There is a couple of computers in the "business center" but, after I heard stories of identities being stolen from public computers I do not like to use any of them. (This is not a lie or urban legend story... one of my friends used a computer in the business center at a very reputable hotel in LAX and, 24 hours later, the credit card she used to pay for the charges was hacked and thousands of dollars of online purchases were charged to her credit card).
Rooms: All I have to say is... "YUK". Here is why: The decor/color is 60's green with super white bright lights, old phones and televisions. Furniture was chipping away, and the room just felt as cold as the lobby.
The bed spread/cover is very old. I immediately take it off the bed as they are the ones to harbor bacteria and the nasty stuff you can only find with a blue light. The bed was very old and could feel the metal springs on my back and was concerned if one of them will come through the fabric and 'poke' me in the back. In addition, the curtains were made of the same material as the bed spread. The television channel selection sucked with only a handful of local channels and a few international.
The only positive thing I have to say about the room is that it has a refrigerator. In other higher quality hotels, a refrigerator is a 'luxury' item with some even adding an additional $30 or more dollars to the bill when asking for one.
The ultimate cleaning test I do is to wear clean white socks and see how they end up at the end of the evening while walking around. Lets say that in a mater of minutes, my white socks were black. I wonder when it was the last time this hotel's carpets where shampooed and properly cleaned.
Bathroom: The basics are given such as shampoo, lotion and soap. Water pressure was good and towels ok but, again, old and a better cleaning detergent could have been used. Hairdryer did its job but was very loud. Everything else worked fine.
Wake-up call: worked fine but not even a voice at the other end. Most hotels will have either a recording or live person give you the time and weather conditions but not here... just silence.
Service: I only had contact with the Front Desk Staff and they seemed to be professional but, along with the ambiance of the hotel, cold and serious.
Overall Experience: Great location but in service, decor, amenities and cleanliness, Hotel Stamford failed completely. Hotel Stamford is in need of major renovations and up-keeping. Better hotels for equal price in the area are available where it can be more comfortable to stay at. -

Location. Location. Location.
Hotel Stanford is one block away from Macys, the Javits Center, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, Daffys, and the Manhattan Mall.
Right smack in K-Town and in the heart of Midtown, I couldn't think of a better location. If you get too claustrophobic from all the shoppers and business people roaming the streets, hop on the subway to greener pastures (Central Park), downtown (stroll through Greenwich Village), escape to the other boroughs, or jump on the PATH train and take a wild ride to Jersey. Hungry? There's an asian bakery in the lobby, free continental breakfast (cereal and spicy ramen!!!) every morning, and if you feel the need to feed the beast at 2 AM, go for some bi bim bap and jap chae next door!
The rooms are small but decent sized for a value priced hotel in Manhattan. Plus they have private bathrooms. I had no problem with my room (it was Euro-ish with two twin sized beds). My friend's room was a little larger but their's came with a hissing cockroach only to be combatted by the hotel personnel holding a can of Raid and fright in their eyes. Oh well. It's not a visit to NYC unless you run into some ghastly bugs or vermin. -

Green Cove Springs, FLNothing exceptional but quite adequate. Very close to Times Square with a subway station right on the corner. Clean. Very nice wine bar on second floor with reasonable Happy Hour prices. Continental breakfast could be improved with a little attention to detail. Only luke warm water in the shower on day 1 but whatever was wrong was corrected for the rest of the stay -

Not a dump...but seems to be on its way there. Extrememly bare-bones quarters...small, hot, one tiny window, and a tv from 1988. Not worth the $200 for the night.( I stayed at a marriott in DC the next three nights for the same price every night and it was great.) Located in extremely busy Koreatown...a lot of interesting restaurants I would love to check out, but again..the hotel really was a disappointment. -

Sunnyvale, CAStayed for a few days in late April, 2012, extended my business trip. Right is the heart of Midtown right by the Garden/Herald Square. Very easy to get to uptown or downtown. The room is clean, but small (perfect for a couple of people with room to spare. The bathroom was very clean. The staff is very friendly, lots of international travelers. This is not the 4 season, but a solid hotel with good midtown pricing. I paid $575 for a queen size bed from Thurs to Sat, check out Sunday. This is a hidden gem! -

New York, NYHave you been to Red Roof Inn across the street? The rooms at Hotel Stanford are much bigger than the ones at RRI. We were amazed that we had room to sit and walk around. Our room was $260 for the the night, Red Roof is about $230. Negative about this place is that everything is a bit more run down but the space makes up for it. Be careful of the elevator, it has a mind of its own. -

Washington, DCThis place is all about location being situated in mid-town's Korea-town. Price was reasonable in comparison to other hotels in the area. But, the service sucks and they screwed us on the bed (a single full size not queen) even though we reserved for two doubles! Recommend that you confirm for sure. The bed was comfortable though... Your stay should include a free continental breakfast until 10AM (nothing exciting). -
