Right next to the Trader Joes grocery store near Union Square sits Trader Joes Wine, an exclusively wine shop that is not to be missed. It's a large store with wines organized by type as well as region. They also have displays for staff favorites. One of the best things about the store is each wine has a description of the taste and often the food pairings, you can learn a lot just read ting the signs here.
The best part of Trader Joe's Wine Shop is the prices (friendly cashiers are a close second). They have their own brand of wine unofficially known as three buck chuck, yeah $3 a bottle! It's actually not bad either. It comes in a bunch of varieties, both red and white. I rarely leave this store with less than 3 bottles. If showing up to a party holding a bottle of wine that says Trader Joe's on it, isn't your style, they have a ton of bottles under $10 here, it's fantastic.
Definitely one of the best stores in NYC, hands down. -

Still my go to spot to get some cheap wine and sake.
I once came here and an old lady almost hit my foot with her cart. Her cart was full of wine, yet she blamed me for being in her way.... Yes I know the wine is cheap and good, but this old lady need to get her drink on fast!
If you're coming here on odd days and weekends, beware of alcoholics and old ladies with shopping carts.

This Trader Joe's simply has to high of a volume of people shopping at it for it ever to be a decent experience. Nearly anytime you seem to go the line is wrapped around the entire store and often through a lot of the vital aisles. You can be assured that the meat and cheese area will always be blocked by the line, often forcing you to shop that section while you are on line, which is HIGHLY annoying to a selective slow shopper like myself.
I love Trader Joe's, but this one is a complete nightmare to shop at, I'd say skip it and just goto the one in 20's if you really need to goto a Trader Joe's. -

Brooklyn, NYThis place is my favorite! It has knowledgeable employees, fast lines and yummy wine! My fav part is that you can find cheap but great tasting wine here! Beats local liquor stores or spirit stores that usually start at $10 (which are subpar for that price). -

I live a 10 min walk from the Whole Foods wine store. They have a decent $2.99 brand as well (decent as $2.99 gets); but after that it goes up pretty sharply. TJ's has their 2 (3) buck chuck, but they also have a fantastic amount of decent wines at $3.99-$4.99. The Blue Fin pinot noir is my fav.
Long story short, I make the 30 min trip here more often than I should probably admit.
PS. Remember your ID! At one point I accidentally found myself there without it (I'm 27 and look maybe 25 at the youngest) and they wouldn't sell to me. Sucks, but I definitely get it. -

Manhattan, NYI mean, it's not okay how great this place is. Organic milk for three bucks? $2.99 gluten free fabulous cupcakes? Wild Alaskan Salmon for $5.99 per pound? Amazing. The best part is the great Trader Joe's staff, they're always friendly and helpful and you're always greeted with a smile when you arrive.-

New York, NYI'm writing this review specifically for the wine shop. As I already made a review for the Trader Joe's market and while the one on 14st is good, I recommend the two other ones in 72nd and 23rd street. Anyhow, you can read my review on that one and give it a useful, funny and cool point (I know, I just get excited, overly excited when I get points for my reviews).
Anyhow, Trader Joe's wine shop is simply magnificent and you damn right its my FAVORITE wine store in all of NYC and maybe all of the damn galaxy bitches! Sure, scuff at me, pinky up with your nose in the air and tell me I don't know my wine but I don't care! I'll be the first to admit I'm not a wine connoisseur but I know damn good wine at super low prices when I TASTE and SEE one and Trader Joe delivers just that. You're not going to fine wine that's no more than 50 bucks (the highest) down right to a measly 3 bucks of great quality wine. If I ever become a hobo in NYC, I'll panhandle a good 3-5 bucks and become a wino at Tompkins Square Park. Fuck it.
The selection of wine is as diverse as the ethnicity and culture of NYC itself. There's saki, plum saki, red wine, white wine, whatever color wine, wine from Italy, Japan, South Africa, South America, North Pole, Heaven, Hell, your mama's vagina, there's just simply wine from every corner of the Earth and of all colors and types.
The wine here will do just perfectly for a little date or romantic dinner evening, a little get together without raping your wallet. And if you want to ball out, it still won't rape your wallet since the most expensive is 50 dollars (from what I've seen). If I lived closer I would stack up on wine and purchase at least 3 months of wine. This place is just simply awesome and I don't care if you're a wine snob, you'll suck up your pride and will shop here. And if you try to deny that I'll use your asshole to cork open my wine bottle........ergh, maybe not. Excitement overload but yeah, you get the point.
If you want good wine, fuck every other wine place and get your ass over here.
PROS:
-Cheap wine, excuse me, INEXPENSIVE wine and great, awesome qualitay (not quali-tee. TAY)
- A superb selection of wine as colorful as the Gay flag
- Your wallet won't get ass raped
- Your inner wino will come out
CONS:
-There's only ONE Trader Joe's wine shop. Supposedly I heard they are only allowed one in the city and/or per State since the wine is so inexpensive and will run smaller owned wine shops out of business. Makes sense.

New York, NYWhen I lived in Pittsburgh, everyone was counting down to the opening of Trader Joes. In fact, once they did open, there were stories of people who drove in from Cleveland with coolers filled with ice just so that they could shop at Trader Joes and bring their food back home.
So it's that type of allure that explains why every Trader Joes in New York is a veritable mosh pit, more so than most New York supermarkets. This from a store that's a little bit like shopping in Russia: just because they have molasses this week doesn't mean that it will be there next week, or ever again.
Usually the line that leads to the cash registers extends around the perimeter of the store and culminates by the entrance with an employee who holds a big sign that says "This is the end of the line."
Here's what you do: grab a cart and get in that line. As you move forward, just grab the things that you need as you move around the perimeter of the store: produce, bread, fish, meat, cheese, milk eggs. Then check out. You were never going to make it into the center of the store anyway, not without spending 30 minutes apologizing to all of the people that you smash into only to to find out that they don't have what you were looking for.
Or you could just get there when they open at 8 am on Sunday. All that said, I'm going to give them five stars because I can't get enough of the sunflower seed butter. -

Manhattan, NYI don't care how downright overplayed Trader Joes is. I fall for the hype just like everyone else.
I am obsessed with TJ, and I KNOW it's not even that great to begin with.
This isn't a grocery store to come and browse for 30mins. You might as well get in line by the time you arrive and pick up the items you need on your way to the cash register. This store is MADNESS! Its so chaotic! Everyone who is shopping here is racing around the store like a nutbrain and grabbing products as if they're going anywhere- they're not. You'll get your salad and your prosciutto, I promise. It's extremely overcrowded and the line is almost always looping around the store.
BUT BUT BUTTT, you really can't beat their prices considering their products are of great quality. If you're one of those organic/all natural fiends, this place is for you. You won't go broke like you would if you went to Whole Foods instead.
Orange Chicken is freakishly good. (In the frozen isle). I would recommend trying that and their pizzas. Actually, I just recommend the whole damn store.
